VTEC -

VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is actually a system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engine. And not all Honda has VTEC system. You drive a Hondo and it doesn’t mean you have it. Check the spces. Now, the VTEC system uses two camshaft thingy and hydraulically selects between the thinyg ( I forgotten what it called ) to operate fully.

VTEC was initially designed to increase the power output of an engine to 100 HP/litre or more while maintaining practicality for use in mass production vehicles. Some later variations of the system were designed solely to provide improvements in fuel efficiency. Which I strongly disapprove and disappointed, when they launch the I-VTEC. OH GOD! The fun is no longer there.

Different cars have different method of application to increase their force or power. For example Rotary was designed and used only for Mazda RX-7. Other Mazda models will not have the luxury to enjoy this. I believe some of you might even hear of Turbo, Supercharge or even the one I like it the most VTEC.

The VTEC system provides the engine with multiple camshaft to optimized for both low and high RPM operations. What happen is the single cam thingy of a conventional engine is replaced with two profiles: one optimized for low-RPM stability and fuel efficiency, and the other designed to maximize high-RPM power output. The switching operation between the two cam lobes is controlled by the ECU which takes account of engine oil pressure, engine temperature, vehicle speed, engine speed and throttle position..

VTEC attempts to have high-RPM performance with low-RPM stability. Isn’t a good choice, where all men in the world want to have both things at the same time?

If you used to TURBO its has lagness, if you are used to Rotary you will have to fun. If you have a VTEC sitting at home. The sound of the VTEC kicks in will drive you to climax.
