D' Right Tuning
I started falling in love with Honda since I was a little
girl. It was all started with Honda DC2. The amount of power that contributed
while the VTEC kicks in is unforgettable. Having the heavily tuned and modified
EG at home makes me a Touge Princess.
When Honda, decided to introduced the CR-Z to the market. My
heart stopped for a second. It’s a sport hybrid! How does the exhaust sounds
like when it goes on full electronic. Will it give me the same excitement as
DC2 and EG? Oh well, the CR-Z is said to
be the successor to the popular second generation Honda CR-Z in both name and
exterior design. Hmmpp………..
Driving around hybrid engine normally means that the torque
of the vehicle is compromised for fuel saving capabilities. While it’s all fine
for some, but for many, torque plays a role in getting from point A to point B
in the best time. While the stock CR-Z has about 17.69kg-m, rough calculation
about 9secs from 0-100 km/h, this hot CR-Z we are looking at produces about
30.19kg-m. Close to double of the stock torque. “Feel the power” stated in some
advertisements. This car literally relates to that. Focusing on the stock
hybrid engine, with some tweaks here and there, 219.18ps / 6100rpm on wheel is
produced. A far cry from the stock numbers of 123.69ps / 6000rpm.
To achieve those numbers parts are ordered and fitted by
D’Tuning. DTS Custom Intercooler Aluminum piping,
DTS Custom Turbo Adapter, Garret GT28 Billet fin turbo, Blitz Intercooler from
Japan, Turbo smart west gate, Duratech all oil & cooling line fiting and
clamps s/b hose fitting are all installed to increase its power. Coupled with
380cc injecter & AEP Hi-flow Fuel Pump, DTS Custom 2½” Down pipe, DTS Custom Air filter piping, WORKS oil cooler kit, WORKS Oil filter, WORKS oil catch tank and NGK plug 8 to work together and run smoothly.
Millers oil Racing
Engine oil CFS 5W40 NT, Torco RTF Racing Transmission Fluid and Millers Extra
Cool are used for protection of the moving parts in the engine.
Additional tuning is needed for the ECU
to accept all the changes without giving the driver problems. The HONDATA
Flashpro Dyno which is tuned by D’Tuning Daniel, 4 Bar Map sensors from Honda
is used to remap the ECU to better manage the upgraded parts fitted together on
the hybrid engine.
With the additional air that the turbo
kit has pumped into the engine, of course there will be a need to change the
exhaust system as well. For that there is the Tongka custom Intake, DTS Custom
Exhaust piping full set and DTS Custom Stainless 2½” muffler. Also to keep
certain parts as cool as possible to enhance durability and prevent
malfunction, Super Thermo cloth for clutch pump & power steering motor have
been used.
“With power comes responsibility”, words
spoke by Spider-Man’s uncle, when used on this car; the handling must be
upgraded to handle that much power. DTS Custom racing clutch, Over-size Brake pump & Disc from CF4, 17” Enkai RB F1 and NanKang
NS2R 215/45 R17 have been fitted. Not much has been done as the standard parts
are sufficient for that sort of power.
Minor modifications have been done to the interior or the
vehicle. The HONDATA Flashpro and the Snow performance
Water Methanol Injection kit are installed to ensure that the ECU and engine
runs smoothly. Then the Greddy Profec e 01 Boost controller and Greddy Oil Temp
meter for monitoring the levels of pressure and temperature respectively. Both
gauges are very important in playing a role for safety and the efficiency of
the engine. With the space required for the upgrades, the Wind Screen spray water
relocation kit is needed.
For the outlook, one would expect it to
look like it would dive at you and eat you, but after all that’s been done
under the hood, it looks surprisingly mellow and pleasing to look at. It will
look like most sports car on the road and you would never suspect that under
the hood, its packing a turbo-kit waiting to let out its roar and fly off.
Trust me, having this beast up the hill, I can still own the title as Touge Princess.
