An Interview with a Racer

Say hi to Zen Low, born and raised in Kuching, Sarawak, he is a driver for Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

Many of us know him for just that, but what we do not know is that he is an avid motor sports enthusiasts. He has experience in almost anything with an engine strapped on. He has raced in Go-Kart, Jetski, Motorcross, GT Sprint and even Formula Vauxhall Single Seater. Now that’s a lot of racing experience.
So racing aside, what about his normal life? It can’t just revolve around burning rubber and tarmac. Well for one, he is married man, with three beautiful babies. His son is named after the famous driver Ayrthon Senna, Leony and Zoe are his daughters, taking the first two letters of their names, he also owns Aylezo Premium garage.

Again we’ve all heard of Team Aylezo, but did you know it is actually a garage as well? Tuning and maintaining race cars is the forte, but tuning everyday continental cars are also done.

Enough about Aylezo, more on Zen the man himself. According to him, he fell in love with racing since he was young. As most ‘boys’ back in the hay day, we all had tendencies of getting in some sort of mischief (I know I did) every hour of the day. How many cartoons were available back then? Just so happens that during the younger years of Zen, there was Speed Racer (for those whose lost on what that is, http://bit.ly/1J9Paj9). Zen was inspired by the race suit and imagining wearing the race suit and helmet, makes him look like a superhero. At one point in all our childhoods, I’m pretty sure we all wanted to be one our superheroes.

With the superhero image burned into his memory, two ambitions came to mind, one was to be a fighter pilot (you still get the suit and helmet) and the other of course was to be a race car driver just like Speed. The dream stuck on and Zen made it a reality.

Now he races for Lamborghini in the Super Trofeo series and when asked why Lamborghini in particular? He answered simply, because it was an icon. “When you ask any child about cars, the brands that they will know will be Ferrari and Lamborghini” he stated.

Since he has already made his childhood dream of being a racer come true, I just had to ask, what would be your future dream in the near future? To him, the answer was simple. To take his racing career to the limits. He is looking forward to work with Lamborghini in the 24 hours Le Mans the world’s oldest endurance race in sports car racing. “To me, life is about speed and motorsports” he added.

Of course he has his family’s full support, though at times they do pressure him to slow down. “There was once I did think about stopping, though that was when I was lying in a hospital bed with three broken ribs and a punctured lung. Once I got out, it was back to racing again”. “It was all a state of mind in a bad situation”

Before ending the interview, he added “live life to its fullest. Do not give up in your dreams”

We at MyPinkGarage wishes him good luck in his future endeavors and also wish to see him in Le Mans.
