How to Spot A True Female Car Enthusiast
How can you be able to tell the difference between someone who just has a cool car and someone who knows just about every spec of their car?
Having said that, I have come to the realization that sometimes, being a car enthusiast is simply great but you're stuck wondering why you put up with it at all.
I blogged about how tough being a female car enthusiast on yesterday’s entry. Someone commented on my Facebook and asked “how do you spot a true Female Car Enthusiast? . I guess, I could only use myself as an example
They are tech support when it comes to their ride
Cars will always be my passion, I love working on my so called “secret project” as long as there is something got to do with a car.
And then, it happens. It may come in the form of a random strangers, relative or long lost friend I found thru Facebook.
“Hey, you know about cars, right?
I was thinking to change to a new black oil, what is your recommendation?
Where do you normally service your car? How good is your mechanic?”
I do understand why people want to ask for help because they don’t have the knowledge or can’t be bother to do their own research. What really drive me nuts is “you like cars, you know about cars”
Yes, I love cars in general. I love working on my own cars and making my own schedule and budget. It's a fulfilling experience to put a something on a car and feel the difference.
They can't bring up their passion in conversation.
I try very hard to make sure I sound like a girl. I don’t know what the hell Face Primer is, I have problem searching for suitable skin care products for myself. I don’t know how to make proper conversations with non-car related topics. I can blog a Car Love Poem but not a Love Love Poem.
There are times where shit happens when I talked to someone about cars and that person doesn't have the knowledge/ability/intestinal fortitude to talk at length about it. It is very awkward.
Their spouse or other half hates it.
Unless your family has got something to do with Motorsports, like my other half is a Motoring Editor, he has got no issues with it. Odds are that my more-than-healthy obsession with getting dirty and buying parts for my depreciating asset in the garage is taking its toll on our relationship.
There's only so many ways you can explain that you needed that ball bearing turbo because it makes full boost 2000 rpm sooner and that'll help your 60' time at the track.
Likewise, my mom never understands why I need to lowered my car. Going so low causes her shopping problems.
Maybe it's because I like shiny things that make loud noises and knowing that within that raucous symphony of sound is a device that produces thousands of explosions per minute and pushes me back in me seat when I floor the pedal.
It's a lot easier to come to terms with the fact that my partner is a car-obsessed maniac.
They are attracting the wrong kinds of attention.
I think the main reason for this is the energy I have been radiating until now. I believe that our life (including our relationships) is a physical expression of who we are. I also believe that we attract life events, circumstances and people who match, with this energetic signature of ours.
I keep attracting the wrong kind of people into my life, it means there is something, within me, that resonates with those people (or with the kind of relationship I have with them).
It does not mean there’s anything wrong with me! There is nothing wrong with me at all. It simply means there are unique things within me that is who I really am.
Yes, during college years and till now. Everyone think I am a bitch because I am often surrounded by guys. Even till now, the same issue.
Honestly, I do not have cover girl's body. I am not tall or fair. I have a very unique shape where they called it “ROUND”. I am loving it!
Guys will often look at the appearance of a girl at the very beginning. However, it is the attitude and personality that compel them to stay on. I am a girl with nothing but passion toward motorsports that comes with big dreams. As age keep catching up, I do have guys in their late 30s came to up and said “ I should have known you earlier”
I kept telling people I am a Motoring Blogger and I wish one day I will be doing this, that, this, that, this, that…….and I ended up telling people how much I love Touge and eventually the conversation slipped in. Guys often find it interesting because they are able to start a comfortable topic with an opposite sex about something they hardly talk about.
They are always broke.
There are two words that usually go along with a car that has a lot of time, effort and emotion invested in it: Money Pit. Car modification can get ludicrously expensive, not to mention track time, petrol, race gas, safety gear and maintenance. That's not even counting the ticket you just got, and the bumper you have to respray because that speed bump came out of nowhere.
You may not be eating off the streets just yet, but ask yourself one question and assess your own obsession a bit more objectively: If you were offered a garage full of your dream cars, but you subsequently had to live out of that garage for the rest of your life, would you do it? If you answered no, feel free to leave. We don't need no stinking amateurs.
To everyone else, welcome your addiction and it is also my addiction.
I categorize myself as a female car enthusiast because I fulfill all 5 categories up there. A female that is willing to learn and get her hands dirty by doing something that will fulfill her excitement is what u call an “enthusiast”
I will make sure if I would wanna make my ride fast, I must learn how to maintain it, how to source for the parts, how to bring the current performance to the next level, how not to panic when your thousand dollars parts decides to give up.
I learnt over the years, how to exit every corner with the shortest time. That is where you will learn different cars exits at different timing along with their performances. Prior to that, I don’t need to learn how fast I need to slim down, what to eat just to maintain my body. Because my body is not my addiction.
